RICHMOND

The vibrant city of Richmond, is situated on the eastern shores of the San Francisco Bay in Western Contra Costa County. The city has an estimated population of around 111,000 people.

Richmond has a unique history and played a huge role in the World War II home front effort. Between 1940 and 1945, tens-of-thousands of workers from all over the country streamed into the City to support wartime industries. The City was home to four Kaiser shipyards which housed the most productive wartime shipbuilding operations of World War II, launching 747 ships during the war. The City was also home to approximately 55 war-related industries - more than any other city of its size in the United States. Even today, the City plays an important role in oil refining, industrial, commercial, transportation, shipping and government center.

The city is known for its rich cultural diversity, and throughout the year, celebrates this beautiful melting pot, with an array of multicultural heritage events and festivals. Richmond has plenty of outdoor and recreational activities, from hiking to waterfront trails, where residents can enjoy activities like walking, biking, picnicking, or simply enjoying the scenic views. Point Pinole Regional Shoreline and the Richmond Greenway are local favorites.

Centrally located and just across the bay from San Francisco, Richmond offers a convenient option for those who want to be close to 'the city" without the higher costs associated with living there.
